![]() it just happens that there is MUCH more malware for Windows.Ĭonsider today's report of a Mac trojan posing as a Flash update. Macs have to scan for malware just like any PC. ![]() If Macs were immune to malware, then Apple would not have added XProtect, an anti-malware scanner to OS X two years ago. Oh, and also use common sense when browsing the internet (turn off Java, only install software from reputable sources etc.). ![]() In my opinion, a better option is to simply familiarize yourself with OS X’s system processes, keep your software up to date, take a look at your system logs occasionally, install something like Hands Off! and/or Private Eye, and enable the security features that Apple offers you like FileVault, the built-in Firewall, automatic updating of the secure downloads list, and secure virtual memory. ClamAV is an open source antivirus toolkit that Apple actually includes with OS X Server, so if you insist on running something I would go with that. If their products actually worked then malware would not spread and there wouldn’t be a market for it in the first place. Personally I would never trust a third party company that tries to sell you security as a service as there is a huge conflict of interest there. ![]() I won’t tell you that, but I will tell you that some software that may ostensibly make your system more secure will actually make it less secure. Thanks and please don't tell me it's secure just because it's a mac.
